Introduction on Media Studies
What is Media Studies?
It may sound in the first instance that Media Studies is a subject related to reading some newspaper or watching films. However, with modern days development in information and technology that media studies goes much beyond just reading newspapers and watching films. It is about collection and dissipation of information in real-time to audiences around the World. It is about utilizing current technological developments for bringing out the best in different media activities such as photography, videography, editing, etc. It helps you engage with the modern and diverse industry of Media.
Media Studies would require us to design our own websites, creating our own magazines, making documentaries, newspaper articles and making our own music videos. Media Studies will qualify students to join a host of different professions at senior levels such as Film Director, Social Media Manager, Videographer, or even a Magazine editor.
It is obvious that the subject of Media Studies will bring out the best of creativity and give students a better understanding of how big of an impact Media has created on our everyday lives.
Why I choose Media Studies?
As i previously mentioned in my self introduction, I have always taken keen interest and participated eagerly in extra curricular activities such as photography, event coverage, and videography and as such selection of the Media Studies subject was natural choice for me. Furthermore, I also have excellent video editing skills and always seek opportunities to learn more about it and put this skill into practice. As such the whole subject of Media Studies appears very exciting especially in the current era of digital and computer related developments.
When it comes down to the As syllabus regarding media, we are given two options for our portfolio:

I choose option two. This is because I feel like option 2 is going to provide me with a more diverse exposure to various aspects of Media Studies.
The reason for this is that course in A2 mostly involves video related skills. Whereas in As/A1 Option 1 also includes similar skills related to Videography. Consequently, I selected option 2 in order to widen my scope of learning. Selecting option 1 for As would be kind of like repetition.
